Stray
Copyright © 2001 Kevin Cook

Got nobody, got no home
Got no future but the great unknown
Too young to be out on your own
Too young to stray.

Never had it easy,
never had it good
The pickins’were slim
in your neighbourhood
Alone and abandoned
to make your own way
Poor little stray.

Those sad hungry eyes,
they don’t trust no one
Dyin’ to get loose,
you were born to run
Through green fields
on a summer day.
Hey, hey.

When I first came around
they had you on death row
You were kinda’ scrawny
and too dumb to know
I signed some papers
and we walked away
Me and the stray.
